Bilingual teaching

As part of the development of our "Bilingual Primary School" concept, we teach music, sport, art and, of course English, in English.

The initiation of this project in 2014/2015 was made possible by the financial support of Mrs Gertrud Backof and The Erika and Werner Messmer Foundation, which allowed us to hire Miss Naomi Trevor on a part time basis. Miss Trevor is a native English-speaker, originally from London and is a dedicated English teacher. She started the bilingual project at our school teaching 4 hours a week.

At the start of the 2016/2017 school year, we were joined by another British teacher, Mrs Katherine Cormier. Mrs Cormier, originally from Oxford, is a qualified and experienced primary school teacher. She is currently teaching 10 hours in year 1/2 and 9 hours in year 3/4 at Stahringen.

Why bilingual?

Our reason for offering this method of teaching is mainly to help our pupils to become "fit for Europe" and to encourage them to grow up to be open-minded citizens.

The English language has an ever increasing importance in preparing the children for modern-day life and work.

We strongly believe that the sooner and more playfully the children start learning English, the easier it will be for them later in life.

Our educational goals are:

  • Development of language awareness
  • Individual language support
  • Early promotion of multilingualism
  • Acquisition of intercultural competence
